And the winner is..

And the winner is..

Devil’s Bit Farm started with a few objectives, one was striving to curate offerings that would surpass the typical standards and emerge as a new standard!

With this in mind we looked to “the Oscars of Irish food awards”, Blas na hEireann. We finished the entry form with only hours left to apply and then pressed send and awaited word on what to do next. Now bring your mind back to mid summer, in fact think back that outrageous heat wave in late July and that’s when we had to get our Assorted Salad Leaves down to Dingle! Luckily we used a chilled van courier, saving a journey using multiple ice boxes in a golf for over three hours - very lucky!

So then our part was complete, all we had to do was wait. To say each week was counted down would not be an exaggeration, but finally at the end of August we heard the great news - we were finalists! Honestly having gotten to the finalist stage in such a prestigious competition was amazing! First year of trading, many little speed bumps along the way, lots of learning on the job, oh, and a global pandemic; and we were now finalists.

October 2nd was the final, and now every day for over a month was checked off, each day we were closer to finding out, did we or didn’t we win. We were in the Chef’s Larder category which would be announced after 5pm. The hours and minutes were now checked off, they felt even longer than the months or weeks, especially when it was said that this year had the highest amount of entry’s ever! Then via video announced by Nevin Maguire and Brian McDermott and it was reveled..

If you follow us on social media you’ll know, WE WON! First it was shock and then it was absolute joy that we actually did it! The long days, the little speed bumps, the big speed bumps (the global pandemic!) and everything else all made the win even sweeter.

After the win sank in it was clear, we were well on our way to emerging as a new standard and what better way than with a simple bag of salad!

Onwards and upwards!!
